The following are the main differences between FaceMOUSE and other aids to control the mouse:

- FaceMOUSE is suitable for a greater number of disabled people in comparison with other aids. Indeed, it does not require to the user to have perfect control of head in order to be able to move it or for him/her to sit still for a certain period of time in order to click, requirements that most disabled people cannot meet due to their handicap.

- FaceMOUSE allows you to move the mouse with any body part, not just the head; instead other aids allows you to move the mouse with the head only!

- FaceMOUSE does not require any sensor to be applied to the user’s body, like with other systems that requires the sensor.

- Software, also developed by A.I.D.A., is integrated with FaceMOUSE to design personalized virtual keyboards, which can be used to write on the screen or for educational/rehabilitation games, and vocal synthesis which allows people who have a hard time speaking to communicate. Instead, other aids similar to FaceMOUSE simply supply software to control the mouse; this way, the user must also employ additional software to simply write on the screen.

- Compared with other mostly standardized aids, FaceMOUSE can be considered an “open system.” Thanks to the flexibility of its basic technology, it is possible to easily adapt it to the specific needs of the disabled person with additional software modules. This characteristic is fundamental since each disabled person, even if seemingly similar to others, has special needs due to the characteristics of his/her handicap.
